UPDATE #6 10/23 The post clerk said that she and the postmaster had a Zoom meeting with officials yesterday 10/22. The officials stated that they do not believe that they can offer address delivery; however, they are working to put into affect that residents shall not be billed henceforth for PO Boxes AND they will enter our addresses into “Address Management System,” so we can be entered into the National Database. This will help with ensuring proper deliveries, ease of official paperworks, and allow us to be recognized on websites such as the USPS and congressional leaders databases. The postal clerk, the post master and myself are working together to create a database of addresses on file with City Hall so they can begin to add addresses into the management suite. I was hoping that we would be able to be allowed house delivery; however, I am excited that we are moving in a direction that is fair for our citizens and where we will be able to have our addresses recognized.
I will update again when the new policies shall go into affect.
UPDATE #5 10/10 LETTER RECEIVED FROM USPS TO SENATOR BUDD’S OFFICE: TEXT IS BELOW
This is in response to Service Request ********* on behalf of your constituent City of High Shoals.
After investigation and consultation with local management, the congressional inquiry is still under
investigation.
I am currently collaborating with our Manager of Operations Integration and the Postmaster to
determine the feasibility of providing street delivery in this territory. If that is not an option, we are
exploring the possibility of oƯering a free PO Box (E-Box) to eligible customers.
We appreciate your patience as we strive to provide the best service to our customers.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to respond.
Sincerely,
Linda A Satterfield
Customer Relations Specialist (District)
UPDATE #4: 9/25– Senator Overcash’s office has sent over the information to Senator Budd as well. Their office has already contacted me for a Privacy Act Release form so they may act as our representative to the USPS. Public Law 93-579 (Privacy Act of 1974). I have already filled the form out and have sent it back to Senator Budd’s office.
UPDATE #3: 9/25–I just got off the phone with the Senator Overcash and he is going to reach out to the Federal level to see what we can have done. He completely understands our situation and will work to see if anything, we can join with Dallas & Lincolnton to add a delivery route so we can be added to the National Registry of Addresses**
UPDATE #2: 9/24–I contacted the (800) USPS number and they said they would just send it back to Rich, the postmaster of Iron Station. So, I have sent out emails to our house representatives and to our Senators to see if they can shed some light or get with their Federal contacts to help us out.
**UPDATE #1: 9/23–The Post Master of Iron Station contacted me and said that he really can’t answer the questions because his superiors have yet to give him an answer. He suggested I try higher ups to get the ball rolling.**
I am working with USPS to try to initiate mail delivery.
I have a service request put in and was told it would be at the end of next week before I hear anything.
The only way to get put on the National Registry is to have mail “home” delivered.
Once I find out which post office can service our city, I will update so that residents who choose to install a mailbox within the parameters of the USPS specifications, will know which Post Office to visit to request delivery service.
